About this experience

Watch a real Maiko perform up close—an extremely rare chance, as only about 40 remain in Kyoto today. The show includes two short dances (about 10 minutes total), followed by a Q&A, photo session, and a traditional Japanese game. PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING CAREFULLY BEFORE BOOKING⬇️ - The performer will be a MAIKO, not a GEISHA. A Maiko is a apprentice geisha, which means that she is training to become a geisha. She is a apprentice geisha, which we call a Maiko. - Maiko performances are intentionally short to preserve the art, so she will NOT perform for the full hour. - We offer two different tour options: Tea House: held inside an authentic Kyo-Machiya. Gion Theater: held in a dedicated showhouse. Please check the photos before booking. - We cannot have any late arrivals because of manners to other guests and to the geisha. If you are late, unfortunately we cannot provide a refund.

What to expect

    For the Tea House Option, we will visit Kamishichiken Street, which is the oldest Geisha District in Kyoto.

  2. Stop 2 · 30min

    For the Gion Theater Option, the theater is in the center of Miyagawa cho, 1 of the 5 Geisha Districts in Kyoto.

  • THIS MEETING POINT IS FOR THE OPTION "One Hour Geisha Show in Gion" is MUTEKI Theater 〒605-0832 京都府京都市東山区大黒町302−２ Our guide will wait in front of the theater, with a sign that says GuideMe Japan.
  • THIS MEETING POINT IS FOR THE OPTION "One Hour Geisha Show in Kyoto" Our guide will wait in front of the KOHYO which is a supermaerket. We will walk to the tea house and is around 5 minutes away from this location.

End point

  • THIS MEETING POINT IS FOR THE OPTION "One Hour Geisha Show at a Tea House In Northern Kyoto". We will end at Kitano Tenmangu Shrine. The 30 minute walking tour of the shrine is optional, guests may choose whether or not they want to leave after the 1 hour show.

Before you go

  • Suitable for all physical fitness levels
  • The performer will be either a Maiko or a Geiko, depending on the day (We do NOT refer them as GEISHA in Kyoto)
  • Performances are intentionally short to preserve the art, so she will NOT perform for the full hour.
  • The performance itself will be 10 minutes in total. (The culture is more about the experience, rather than just focusing on performances)
  • Children under the age of 5 may not join
