Shodoshima Full-Day E-Bike Tour: Angel Road & Rice Terraces

About this experience

Discover the scenery, culture, and flavors of Shodoshima on a full-day guided e-bike tour from Takamatsu. After crossing to the island by ferry, ride an electric-assist e-bike along coastal roads, quiet countryside, and historic streets. Visit Dofuchi Strait, cycle through the maze-like old town, and stop at Angel Road for sea views and local sweets. Continue to the Hitoyama Rural Kabuki Stage and the beautiful Nakayama Rice Terraces before visiting Shodoshima Olive Park and a traditional somen noodle producer. With an English-speaking guide, you can enjoy photo stops, local stories, and the island’s landscapes at a relaxed pace. The e-bike makes the hills and longer distances easier, so you can focus on discovering Shodoshima beyond its usual sightseeing spots.

What to expect

  1. Stop 1 · 20min

Meet at Takamatsu Port Ferry Terminal in Takamatsu City, Kagawa Prefecture. Here, you'll meet your guide, receive a tour briefing, and learn how to operate your electric-assist bicycle. We'll also purchase ferry tickets together before boarding.

  2. Stop 2 · 20min

After arriving at Tonosho Port, we’ll stop by Ikemoto Hoeidou, a long-established confectionery founded in the early Showa era. You'll choose one sweet from a pre-selected selection, including traditional Japanese sweets, Western-style cakes, or their popular “kuzu bars” (included in the tour price). If you wish, you can also shop for additional items at your own expense.

  3. Stop 3 · 5min

Stop at the Dofuchi Strait for a memorable photo. Recognized by the Guinness World Records as the narrowest strait in the world, it’s a fun and unique sightseeing spot.

  4. Stop 4

Ride through “Meiro-no-Machi” (the Maze Town). This historic area features a maze-like network of narrow alleys, originally designed as a defense strategy in the Edo period. We’ll cycle slowly through the district and pass by Saikoji Temple along the way.

  5. Stop 5 · 10min

Stop at the Nakayama Senmaida (terraced rice fields) for scenic views and photo opportunities. These rice terraces reflect the traditional countryside of Japan. Please note: during off-season periods after harvest, this stop may be substituted with another location.

  6. Stop 6 · 25min

Take a break and enjoy a walk along the sandy beach of Angel Road, a romantic natural sandbar in Tonosho Town, Shodoshima. This famous spot appears only at low tide, connecting small islands you can walk across—a symbolic place known for bringing people together.

  7. Stop 7 · 5min

Stop by the Fudoyama Rural Kabuki stage for photos and sightseeing. This traditional kabuki stage has been preserved since the Edo period and is still used by locals today. Its revolving stage and authentic design make it a unique cultural site.

  8. Stop 8 · 5h

In Shodoshima Town, we’ll enjoy a lunch of local somen noodles at Somen Sakubei (included in the tour price). After lunch, we’ll enjoy a seasonal treat at MINORI GELATO—either gelato or soft serve—followed by a guided visit to Shodoshima Shokinjou, a traditional soy sauce brewery (both included in the tour). Next, we’ll stop by Morikuni Sake Brewery, where guests who wish can enjoy the on-site café or shop for local goods (optional, not included in the tour price). We’ll then head to Sakate Port and take a ferry back to Takamatsu East Port. From there, it’s about a 20-minute ride by electric bike back to Takamatsu Port.
