Hiroshima and Miyajima by Bike and Boat

About this experience

A full day adventure on bikes, boats, and trains at two of Japan's must-see destinations. Starting the day on two wheels, experience a thought-provoking and sensitive commentary on the history of Hiroshima's Peace Memorial Park and Castle. From here, take a local train and ferry to Miyajima Island, where you can enjoy the contrast between with the stunning Shinto buildings and lush greenery of the island. Once on the island, you will learn about the culture of the island, explore the sites with your guide, greet the local deer, enjoy a regional lunch (vegetarian options are available but for other dietary requirements please get in touch), and discover the famous Itsukushima Shrine. Return to Hiroshima City in the manner you arrived and get evening recommendations from your neighbourhood guide.

   Arrive at the iconic and moving Cenotaph monument and take a moment to reflect before we move on with the tour

4. Stop 4 · 30min

   Visit this beautifully restored Hiroshima Castle and enter the world of feudal Japan! Explore the moats and grounds, grab a picture at the main tower, and discover the role of the castle in Hiroshima's historic and contemporary culture.

5. Stop 5 · 30min

   Ride the iconic Miyajima Ferry (fare included) to reach Miyajima and on to explore the sites of this beautiful island.

6. Stop 6 · 1h 30min

   Explore Miyajima island with your guide navigating you through the streets. Admire the stunning orange buildings set against lush greenery, learn about the history of the island, and take breathtaking pictures in one of the most picturesque locations in the country.

7. Stop 7 · 1h 30min

   Navigate through the monuments and landmarks surrounding the Itsukushima Shrine. Get in touch with the local wildlife, grab a few snaps and enjoy a local sit-down lunch at a nearby eatery.

8. Stop 8 · 20min

   After retracing your steps on the ferry and train, we will return to base by bike to pick up any luggage you have stored and get recommendations for your onward journey from your knowledgable local guide.
